Well This Is Different

Obama seeks  GOP input on the new $825 billion stimulus package.

“The goal is to seek their input,” Robert Gibbs, a White House spokesman, said of the meetings with Republicans. “He wants to hear their ideas. If there are good ideas — and I think he assumes there will be — we will look at those ideas.”

Since when do presidents ask rival party congressmen for ideas? Something fishy is going on in Washington.

It’s worth remembering that Baby Boomers and the politics of the 60s has basically dominated public politics and discourse for the last 40 years. It’s been hippies vs. crew-cuts the entire time, with increasingly ancient baby boomers in the white house and most other political offices. Obama may be the firstpresident to move beyond this particularr brand of vitriol and look for good solutions rather than towingparty lines… somewhat, at least. We’ll see how it shakes out.

I’m underwhelmed to say the least. When Obama implements are large part of the republicans suggestions will I be impressed.

But then again I think government operates best when it’s divisiveness causes paralysis. In most cases, government action is more harmful then inaction.

Difference of opinion is good in a government, but I think what we’ve had of late is paralysis due to incompetence and lack of leadership.
