Doctors practicing a technique is science? I believe the scientific part was when the government conducted a full-scale examination of outcomes and reported that psychosurgery could only work in rare occurences…. Science and technology would then come in handy when they developed ECT which could supply positive benefit without the trauma inflicted by the lobotomy.
If this were a Papal pronouncement, we would indeed have to still live by it. Good thing that science, unlike religion, can be improved upon over time.
Nope its not a papal pronouncement. Thank god its not a liberal one either or we would have to live by it as well. See seat belts and smoking for examples of what I mean. Really come to think of it thank goodness its not a conservative pronouncement like drugs and sodomy laws.
