Libertarains On the Horizon?

We can only hope?

They predict that today’s individualist, consumer-driven culture will eventually produce a politics to match. “Much of this new activity will be explicitly libertarian, since the decentralization of control and individual empowerment is so deeply embedded in Internet technology and culture…. The Long Tail future of politics just as surely belongs to the president and party that figures out the secret to success is giving away power by letting the voter decide more of what matters.”

Our most popular TV show is American Idol. We both agree that our education system is terrible. And you think we should move closer to true democracy? I must admit you have more faith in our electorate than I do.

I guess you can argue that our current government is pretty awful as well, so maybe the individualist, consumer-driven would be the lesser of two evils. If the latter becomes a reality, I would wager good money that Universal Healthcare would be on the horizon as well. It’s not good for a country once citizens realize they can vote themselves money.

Steve doesn’t want to move towards democracy- he explicitly believes that people with more money should have more say in shaping our culture, economy and government. Which is probably why he’s skeptical of Net Neutrality.
